Thoughts, Musings, and Updates.

As I dive deeper into becoming a better photographer, and trying to move towards eventually doing this as my occupation. I am finding more and more ideas are springing forth. This is a quick update about some of those things as well as a few of the lessons I am learning both through self experimentation and studying from others.

I read blogs from many sources : Digital Photography School, NYIP, PhotographyTalk, Jeff Cable and many others I am always looking for new tips or creative ways to enhance my vision etc.

I take the time to look at other photographers work and am learning more and more what i do like and what I don't. In addition to the photo contest site I actively participate in [www.viewbug.com] I follow many photographers on twitter and facebook and while I may not go through entire galleries I do look at what comes across my news-feed. This is helping me to refine my style and learn better composition.

I have realized that I enjoy being a landscape photographer. I am lucky to live on Cape Cod which provides beautiful scenery and sunsets with out traveling great distances. My skills are advancing I am happier with my recent work and can see a marked difference from when I started , I know I have a long way to go yet but it is nice to see the progress that I have made. As I move forward I Know that I want to sell prints and possibly do some calendars ,postcards or travel shots.

With all that being said I am attempting to expand my portfolio to include more types of photography. I have made an offer on my facebook photo page to shoot portraits or family shot for my friends for no compensation so that I can learn the proper techniques and improve.

One of the ideas I had recently that got good feedback is to do a Cape Cod Sunsets/ Sunrises Calendar for 2015. I will be moving forward with this idea and this is just a brief synopsis of the timeline I expect to follow. Each month of the calendar will feature a Sunset or sunrise captured during that month of either this year or last. I will not be repeating locations for any of the months. For the logistics of ordering and delivering the calendars in a timely fashion I will be running a kickstarter campaign in late August through September. The cost of the calendar will be listed as the basic contribution with framed or canvas prints being available at higher dollar amounts. By doing this in Late summer I should be able to have everything printed and ready for shipment by thanksgiving time. 2015 will be a test run and if successful I will repeat this each year, also I will be attempting to sell the calendars through local stores that support local artists.

Recognizing that I am getting good feedback for what I am doing and wanting to see if I can actually make it as a photographer. I am changing my "gear lust " for the moment. A recent example of this being I could have spent a portion of my tax return on a new lens, however I decided that a high quality photo printer, mat cutter and all of those supplies would better serve the goals of getting my artwork out there.

Thank you for reading this . As always I appreciate any feedback.

Looking for feedback.

Looking for some feedback on an idea I had. I am thinking of making a Cape Cod Sunset calendar for 2015. Each month of the year would feature a sunset picture from that corresponding month the previous year. These would be high resolution prints with calendar construction equaling the quality of the ones you could purchase at a mall. If enough people on this fan page or that follow my blog think this could be a good idea, I would run a Kickstarter campaign to organize this project. Please let me know what you think.
